eHealth Best Practice

Some ideas about how best to implement eHealth. BEST PRACTICE: 1) Simplify the data collection process (this includes the paper form, the encoding process, and the transmission scheme) * a simple paper form means fewer data to collect. The questions should be unambiguous * fewer questions means it's easier to encode * digital data should find their way seamlessly to where they should go 2) Digitize the data at the point-of-care * the most qualified person should encode the clinical encounter (eg, if the encounter is a prenatal checkup, the most qualified health personnel might be a midwife) 3) The data to be collected must be useful to the collector. * data quality deteriorates very quickly if the data being collected is not useful for the collector (eg, it is useful for the higher level program managers but not for the midwives). People tend not to take care of accuracy and the like if they won't be using the data themselves. 4) Push the data as quickly as possible to the center * letting data pass through layers and hierarchy makes it vulnerable to manipulation and errors in transmission
